Cycling is more than just riding a bike; it’s a way of life. Since I threw my leg over an old steel frame with down tube shifters as an inexperienced teen, who went out to my first bunch ride with unshaven legs and no idea what I was doing, I was hooked. It was the start of a lifelong passion.
"Cycling has grounded me through every chapter of my life."
Through the ups and downs of life, riding has always been a constant presence for me - what grounds me, keeps me sane and whole as a human being. I’ve had some amazing moments on the bike feeling a sense of freedom on the road, achievement in winning races, and generally just feeling calmer and happier. It’s also been there in some of the hardest times of my life, when I felt like life was just getting too hard. Riding keeps me calm, focused and helps me subconsciously process things. I can head out for ride with a million things on my mind or after a shitty day, push through a hard session and somehow process everything. I come back wrecked and physically exhausted but mentally and emotionally clearer. It’s like a mental reset. It’s a hard feeling to describe to non-riders, just how much the bike means to me.
The Adelaide Advantage
I feel so lucky to be based in Adelaide with the cycling routes we have here- there are so many great spots to ride. There are not too many places in Australia where you can see the suburbs, the city, the beach, the hills and the vines all in one ride. I never take that for granted.

Partnership and Foundations
Velo Vibe wasn’t built on my passion alone. My business partner, who just happens to be my wife, and I decided from day one to build this business together, each taking on the roles that played to our strengths. With 10 years’ experience within the cycling industry, my background in product knowledge and performance shaped the technical side of what we offer. Her experience as an educator brought strengths in planning, organisation, communication, and building systems that support people. Those strengths quickly became the backbone of our business, from marketing to day to day operations. Velo Vibe has always been a shared vision, and her influence ensures that everything we do is thoughtful, consistent, and aligned with the values we built this business on.
I am a bike nerd and I’ll happily admit it. I love researching what’s new and keeping up with industry innovations. While working within the cycling industry for ten years , this helped me to gain a deep understanding of product knowledge. But that’s not why I did it. I just love learning about what’s going to be useful and what will give me a more competitive edge in training and racing.
The Eastern Brands Evolution
Many people had or still have the perception that Eastern brand bikes are cheap knockoffs. The consensus seems divided based on whether riders prioritise price, innovation, or brand prestige. For a long time, I saw Eastern brands as inferior copies. Back in the day, I would have classed myself as a bike snob, I was really into the prestige of traditional Western brands. But I noticed more bikes coming onto the market that were high quality, significantly more cost effective and when it came to testing their performance against the well known Western brands, held their own by matching or outperforming their rivals.
After witnessing the evolution of Eastern brands that feature premium, well tested products, I became a believer. But I saw a gap in the Australian market. Many of the brands I had now become interested in were difficult to get. With the limited options available, ordering online meant significant disadvantages as a buyer.
The Problem With Buying Direct
• Freight charges, long transit times, and customs delays adds significant cost and waiting time.
• Import duties and GST increases the final price further.
• Concerns with warranty or returns - packing and shipping items back overseas at my own cost.
• Quality control varies, especially with unbranded or open mould frames.
• Bikes arrive unassembled, meaning DIY work or paying a mechanic.
• Inability to see the bike to verify the physical build quality, assess specific component dimensions like handlebar height, and confirm fit.
The Birth of Velo Vibe
So Velo Vibe was created. Our philosophy is simple: to deliver exceptional service and high quality bikes at a cost effective price. We saw an opportunity to bring premium international cycling brands to South Australia that riders may not traditionally see in larger retail stores. Brands that focus on cutting-edge design, performance, and value, without compromising on quality. We’re passionate about supporting our strong cycling community in South Australia and creating a business that riders genuinely enjoy engaging with.
We are proud to focus on carefully selected products and emerging performance brands, including securing exclusive dealer rights for Quick Pro in South Australia. Our vision is to continue introducing high-quality Eastern cycling brands to the Australian market while helping grow their visibility and presence within the local cycling community.
